Details of Experience:

Ms. Bonnie S arrived at The Pearl at Fort Lauderdale on June 10th, 2025, after a short stay at Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale. It was a sunny Tuesday afternoon, but Ms. Bonnie felt the opposite of sunny and cheerful. She had an extremely bad fall at home and spent two days on the floor before being transported to the hospital. Bonnie had been to rehab centers before with only terrible experiences to speak of, and she had a hard time believing that this time would be different.

When Bonnie first arrived, she wasn’t in a great headspace at all. She had been through a lot in the last week and was having a hard time holding on to hope for the future. In her first few days at The Pearl, Bonnie mostly stayed in bed, struggling to find a reason to get up and try again. Some of the identified goals from the therapy team couldn’t even be attempted at first due to medical and safety concerns. However, it wasn’t long before Bonnie was able to start moving in the right direction again through encouragement from the concierge, the recreation staff, the therapy team, and even her roommate. “Beth was also a great CNA; she’s just a very positive, caring, and loving person,” Bonnie shared.

Bonnie went from not even being able to attempt to walk to now walking fifty feet with a walker with only moderate assistance. She went from needing assistance turning from lying on her back to her sides, to now only needing supervision. She also went from requiring partial assistance to managing her personal hygiene to only needing supervision.

When asked about her progress, Bonnie credits her amazing therapists. “Melissa and Bo are fantastic! They were always very encouraging, and they were able to get me up and walking again,” she explained while smiling. Bonnie is almost unrecognizable from her first few days at The Pearl, and we know nothing will stop her from continuing to move in the right direction.

Bonnie doesn’t have a discharge date yet, but she is more motivated than ever to discharge to an assisted living facility and keep progressing on her journey. “I didn’t start out with the best mindset,” Bonnie shared, “but someone who has always been great to me was Morgan, the Urban Zen therapist. She has all these different supplies for aroma therapy that enlighten you and ease your stress and anxiety”.

Bonnie’s journey may have started slowly, but very few people have the will to better themselves like she does now. We have no doubt that she will soon be discharged and moving on to crush the next step on her incredible path.

We wish Bonnie all the best in all that she does, and we know that we will never see her feeling down and out again.
